In short: This article explains the role of partners in the WATAG Partner With WATAG programme. It describes the types of partners WATAG works with, what each type contributes, and how a partnership is structured. A reader will understand what a partner does and what the partnership agreement contains.
A partner is an organisation or institution that agrees to work with WATAG on a specific set of activities. A partner is not a donor, a member, or a participant in a training cohort. The partnership is documented in a written agreement that names the activities, the period, and the points of contact for each organisation.
WATAG sends a draft agreement to the prospective partner. The draft sets out the proposed activities, the schedule, and the responsibilities of each side. A WATAG officer meets the partner's representative to discuss the draft. The two sides agree on the final text, then sign the agreement. Each side keeps a signed copy.
The partnership follows the schedule in the agreement. WATAG and the partner name officers who meet regularly to review progress. The partnership may produce a report, a public event, or a set of findings. At the end of the period, the two sides review what was completed and decide whether to renew the agreement.
A partner contributes specific resources named in the agreement. A research partner, such as a university department, contributes access to academic journals or research methods. A media partner contributes space in a publication or airtime for a discussion. A community organisation partner contributes a venue for a public meeting or a list of local contacts. A partner does not contribute money unless the agreement is a grant contract, which is a separate document.
The partnership agreement does not make the partner a part of WATAG. The partner does not speak for WATAG. The partner does not take part in WATAG's internal decisions. The agreement does not give the partner the right to use the WATAG name for its own activities outside the agreed schedule. The agreement does not commit WATAG to the partner's other projects.
The signed partnership agreement is held by the WATAG office in Abuja. A copy is held by the partner. The schedule of meetings and the list of officers are kept in the WATAG partnership file. Any report or finding from the partnership is published on the WATAG website and sent to the partner.
